Sobre los finalistas de este año, LSU y Clemson, tienen tres títulos previos. LSU dividió en 1958 con Iowa, antes de ganar el BCS en 2003 (USC también fue decretado campeón pese a no jugar la final, pero por tener la misma marca) y 2007. Clemson, por su parte, no tiene títulos compartidos: 1981 y dos del College Football Playoff, temporadas 2016 y 2018.
